Google, Verizon near mobile search pact - report |

Google Inc. is reportedly close to a deal with Verizon Communications Inc. that would give the Web search giant a prominent role in mobile search activity over Verizon's vast wireless network.
According to a report Friday in the Wall Street Journal, Google and Verizon are "nearing an agreement," though key issues still need to be worked out.
The deal under discussion would make Google the default search provider on Verizon handsets. The two companies would split ad revenue from the service, according to the Journal, which cited unnamed sources. Verizon is the second largest wireless carrier in the U.S., falling behind AT&T in terms of subscribers.
