Fiat CEO Talks Tough With Chrysler |

With a looming deadline to work out a deal with Chrysler, Fiat Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne threw down the gauntlet to unions on Wednesday when he said that their opposition to substantial job cuts at the U.S. carmaker by the end of April could spoil any partnership between the two firms.
Marchionne, known in the auto industry for his hard-nosed capacity to turn carmakers around, said unions had taken “more rigid positions” regarding entitlement, a guarantee to employees of access to benefits. “The minute you talk to me about historical entitlement in an organization that is technically bankrupt, it's a nonsensical discussion,” he told Canada’s Globe and Mail. “The UAW and the CAW have a unique opportunity here to change the framework of the discussion."
