Breaking a habit, United Airlines seeks up to 150 new jets |

United Airlines may be seeking bids from Boeing Co. and Airbus on a winner-take-all order of as many as 150 jets, a deal that could fetch as much as $10 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
A deal could be inked by as early as this fall, the newspaper said. No one from Boeing or Airbus was immediately available to comment. A spokesperson for United declined to comment.
That United might be thinking of growing its fleet is a positive sign for an industry that currently suffers from falling demand. In March, the International Air Transport Association said it expects global passenger traffic to contract nearly 6% in 2009, with industry net losses at $4.7 billion.
