Alcatel-Lucent, HP Set Alliance |

French-U.S. telecommunications equipment company Alcatel-Lucent Thursday said it will form a 10-year global alliance with Hewlett-Packard Co. to help customers leverage the convergence of telecoms and information technology.
The alliance comes at a time when the world's telecommunications infrastructure is changing rapidly to accommodate much higher flows of video and data. In the past telecom networks consisted mostly of switches that transported voice calls around the world. Today telecom networks are going digital--with computers and software built throughout them-- to accommodate images, streaming video, and music.
"Telecom and information technology are increasingly intermingling and no company has all this expertise in house," said Ben Verwaayen, the Alcatel-Lucent CEO.
