Merck, Schering-Plough get second FTC request |

Pharmaceutical titans Merck & Co., Inc. and Schering-Plough said Monday that they've received a request for additional information from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission in regard to their proposed merger.
The companies said they intend to cooperate fully with the FTC, and still expect the transaction to close during the fourth quarter of 2009.
Merck /quotes/comstock/13*!mrk/quotes/nls/mrk (MRK 25.31, -0.60, -2.32%) said in March that it planned to acquire Schering-Plough /quotes/comstock/13*!sgp/quotes/nls/sgp (SGP 23.51, -0.29, -1.22%) for $41.1 billion. Merck said the deal would diversify its revenue streams and boost its profile in overseas markets.
