Target to Manage Target.com, End Contract With Amazon |

Target Corp. plans to run its own Web site starting in 2011, ending a 10-year deal under which Amazon.com Inc. fills the site’s orders and provides customer support.
Target, the second-largest U.S. discount retailer, will take over building and managing Target.com before the 2011 holiday season, the Minneapolis-based company said in a statement today.
Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, agreed in 2001 to provide customer care, technology and order fulfillment for Target.com to help the discount retailer lower costs and improve customer service. Prior to the reintroduction of the Web site eight years ago, Target had run its own Web site since 1999.
