McDonald's Corp. overcame flat results in the U.S. with strong overseas growth, pushing its same-store and overall sales higher last month, the fast-food giant said Monday.
In October, McDonald's /quotes/comstock/13*!mcd/quotes/nls/mcd (MCD 62.63, +0.91, +1.47%) global same-store sales -- those at outlets open at least 13 months -- rose 3.3%. Same-store sales were down 0.1% in the U.S., but rose 6.4% in Europe and 4.7% in the Asia, Middle East and Africa division.
Total systemwide sales jumped 10.3%, or 5.2% excluding the impact of currency fluctuations.
Although U.S. comparable sales were flat, the company noted that it "continued to outpace the overall ... industry" with the help of demand for its Dollar Menu, Angus burgers and McCafe espresso-based coffee drinks.
