Retailers Post Solid Jan Sales; Macy's, Abercrombie Strong |

Retailers continued their comeback, posting better-than-expected same-store sales in January, with long-suffering categories like department stores and apparel retailers finally showing signs that consumers are coming back.
Macy's Inc. (M), Limited Brands Inc. (LTD) and Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (ANF) are some of the standouts as they soundly beat expectations that had been a bit muted for retailers after their stronger-than-projected December showing.
January same-store sales rose 3.3%, according to the 29 publicly traded retailers tracked by Thomson Reuters. The monthly gain, the strongest since April 2008, exceeded projections for a 2.5% advance and followed the 2.9% rise retailers saw in December.
