Burger King Holdings Inc. said U.S. and Canada same-store sales fell 8.2% in the U.S. and Canada during January and February, with about 3 percentage points of the decline attributed to harsh weather.
The fast-food chain's global same-store sales dropped 5.4%, as international sales growth offset some of the problems in North America. Chairman and Chief Executive John W. Chidsey said Burger Kings has seen sales and traffic at company-owned restaurants improve in the U.S. and Canada during the first week of March, as the weather has had less of an impact.
The announcement comes a day after rival McDonald's Corp. reported same-store sales rose 4.8% last month, on strong overseas growth and modest growth U.S. growth. Wendy's/Arby's Group Inc. last week warned that severe weather was hurting sales in some parts of the U.S.
