Cal-Maine Foods 3Q profit up on lower feed costs |

Egg producer and distributor Cal-Maine Foods Inc. said its fiscal third-quarter profit rose 12 percent on strong retail egg sales and lower feed costs.
Chairman and CEO Fred Adams Jr. said Monday in a statement that while retail sales were good, sales to restaurants and other food services companies remained soft because consumers are not eating out as often due to economic uncertainty.
While feed costs fell compared to the prior-year period, Adams cautioned that those costs remain volatile.
Cal-Maine sells the majority of its shell eggs in about 29 states across the southwestern, southeastern, midwestern and mid-Atlantic regions.
