Shares of MasterCard Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!ma/quotes/nls/ma (MA 205.75, -4.29, -2.04%) and Visa Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!v/quotes/nls/v (V 71.21, -2.14, -2.92%) lost nearly 3% each early Monday, after Bloomberg News reported late Sunday that mobile carrier giants AT&T Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!att/quotes/nls/att (ATT 26.58, +0.18, +0.68%) and Verizon Communications Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!vz/quotes/nls/vz (VZ 29.46, +0.40, +1.38%) are looking to allow consumers to complete purchases in stores with smartphones rather than credit or debit cards.
