Wall Street Journal - Sep 15, 2010 |
Boeing Co. on Wednesday said that an engine surge aboard one of its 787 Dreamliner test planes forced the company to temporarily ground the jet while it awaited a replacement engine.
While taxiing one of the 787 test planes at the Roswell, N.M., airport on Friday, the crew noticed a surge in power on one of the two Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines and subsequently shut it down, according to a Boeing statement. The company did not say when the plane is expected to return to flight, nor if the incident would have an impact on the overall 787 test flight program, which is running behind schedule. The incident occurred on Dreamliner No. 1, the first 787 to fly last December.
