Online Sales Topped $1B For 1st Time On Cyber Monday -ComScore |

Cyber Monday was the busiest online-shopping day in U.S. history, comScore Inc. (SCOR) said Wednesday, with sales reaching $1.03 billion, up 16% from a year ago.
Retailers have been optimistic about ongoing gains from consumers shopping on the Internet. As such, companies have been increasingly offering Web-only exclusives and other promotions geared toward such shoppers.
ComScore said this past Monday that more than $1 billion was spent online for the first time. That helped put the month-to-date sales up 13% from a year earlier to $13.55 billion.
While Chairman Gian Fulgoni said, "The online holiday shopping season has clearly gotten off to a very strong start," he noted the growth was in part due to "retailers' heavier-than-normal promotional and discounting activity at this early point in the season.
