Dell Does Round Rock Two-Step: Gets Compellent, Defends PC Share |

A double whammy for Dell today, as it announced that it was in "advanced discussions" to acquire storage company Compellent Technologies and a report on global PC sales showed the company held on to it's number two positionin the PC market.
On Thursday, Dell ( DELL - news - people ) announced a $27.50 per share cash offer for Compellent Technologies. The announcement, which values the storage company at $876 million, is Dell's attempt to get in the cloud computing game, as it lost out to Hewlett Packard ( HPQ - news - people ) earlier this year in a bid to purchase Compellent's competitor, 3Par.
