Pentagon awards tanker contract to Boeing |

Boeing Co. will build the Air Force's next aerial refueling tanker, a devastating economic blow to the Gulf Coast.
Boeing (BA) beat out the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. for the $35 billion contract, Air Force officials announced Thursday. Boeing will build the planes in Kansas and Washington state. EADS would have built them in Mobile, Ala.
"Boeing was a clear winner," said Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn.
The company's president, Jim McNerney, said Boeing "is ready now to apply our 60 years of tanker experience to develop and build an airplane that will serve the nation for decades to come."
