GM, Ford Poised to Move Into Higher Gear |

Car makers aren't exactly running on fumes. But there may be a whiff of disappointment in Detroit when June auto sales are released Tuesday.
The first four months of 2012 saw annualized light-vehicles sales in the 14 million to 15 million range. June, on the other hand, likely will result in a second consecutive month of sales below those levels.
Auto-research firm Edmunds.com estimates annualized sales of 13.9 million. That doesn't seem too bad. It would mark a 21% year-on-year increase and, in absolute terms, would be the third-best month since the 2008 financial crisis.
But the recent slowing in sales has led some analysts to trim full-year forecasts, a bit of a turnaround: Many had raised them when February sales hit 15.1 million on an annualized basis, the best month since 2007.
