Monsanto Boosts 2008 View On Roundup, Corn Sales |
CNNMoney.com - Feb 12, 2008 |
Monsanto Co. (MON) boosted its fiscal 2008 per-share earnings estimate for the second time in as many months, citing a "revival" in its Round-Up business and strong early-season corn orders in the U.S.
The news sent shares higher in pre-market trading.
The agribusiness giant raised expectations in January when it released its fiscal first-quarter results and boosted its earnings forecast by 20 cents a share Tuesday to $2.70 to $2.80 a share. The latest mean per-share earnings estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Financial was $2.81.
"The value of our seeds and traits strategy - and the power of our innovation - is once again playing itself out in our earnings growth and free cash generation," said Monsanto executive Brett Begemann in a statement. He will make a presentation later Tuesday at Goldman Sachs' 2008 AgForum Conference in New York.
