McDonald's profit up 24%; international sales strong |

McDonald's Corp. reported Tuesday a higher first-quarter profit as the fast-food giant benefited from strong international sales and generated decent domestic results.
Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's, part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, said it earned $946.1 million, or 81 cents a share, up from $762.4 million, or 62 cents, in the first quarter of 2007. Foreign currency accounted for 5 cents a share of the latest quarter's bottom line, the company said.
Revenue rose 6% to $5.61 billion, with global same-store sales -- those from at outlets open at least a year -- up 7.4%.
The average estimate of analysts polled by FactSet Research had been for McDonald's to earn 69 cents a share on revenue of $5.32 billion.
