Alcoa's profit rises |

The aluminum company beats Wall Street's estimate. Nasdaq eyes another exchange, this time in the U.S. The housing slump is not over yet, according to one home builder.
If Alcoa is the indicator for how companies will fare this earnings season, then investors should feel a sigh of relief.
Higher prices for metal and strong demand from aerospace sales helped boost the aluminum giant's first-quarter profit 9% to $662 million, or 75 cents per share. The company said late yesterday that earnings from continuing operations excluding restructuring charges came in at 79 cents per share. Analysts had been expecting 77 cents per share.
