With search overture, Microsoft gets to the point |

Microsoft Corp.'s recent suggestion to Yahoo Inc. that the companies could cut a deal related to search advertising pares down the software giant's blockbuster takeover bid to its most essential point: It wants in on search before it's too late.
Microsoft's proposals to Yahoo involve a possible direct acquisition of Yahoo's search advertising business, or the formation of an outsourcing deal where their respective search advertising efforts would be combined, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Such an outsourcing partnership could amount to a simple counteroffer to the outsourcing deal Yahoo is already contemplating with Google Inc.
