Kimberly-Clark Profit Rises on New Diaper Products |

Kimberly-Clark Corp., the maker of Huggies diapers and Kleenex tissues, said profit increased 64 percent after it shuttered plants and cut jobs to save costs, and introduced new diaper products.
First-quarter net income rose to $452 million, or 98 cents a share, from $275.1 million, or 60 cents, a year earlier, the company said today in a statement. Sales gained 7.8 percent to $4.39 billion.
Personal-care products, the company's largest unit, rose almost 11 percent on sales of new products such as Huggies Newborn and Huggies Little Walkers diaper pants. Efforts to cut costs overcame $80 million in higher raw material prices, including a 20 percent jump in pulp, its biggest commodity cost.
