Best Buy Hit with "Bait-and-Switch" Suit |
PC World - May 25, 2007 |
Best Buy was hit with a lawsuit by Connecticut's attorney general on Thursday accusing the retailer of deceiving customers with in-store computer kiosks and overcharging them.
"Best Buy used in-store kiosks to conceal lower online prices and renege on its price match guarantee," said Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal in a statement. "Consumers seeking bargains were led to believe that lower online prices had expired or never existed. Best Buy treated its customers like suckers, not patrons to be prized."
The lawsuit (PDF file) stems from complaints in February 2007 from consumers that said they were not able to obtain prices advertised on Best Buy's Web site when they went to the physical Best Buy store to purchase the item. Since 2005, Best Buy has pledged to match any lower online price, including from its own Internet site.
