With its future as a stand-alone device company in jeopardy as competition in the smartphones space intensifies, speculation over a possible sale has lifted shares in Palm Inc. (PALM, 13.11) from the doldrums.
Considering every major device maker from Nokia (NOK, 28.19) to Research In Motion (RIMM, 160.80) to Motorola (MOT, 18.36) could be a potential buyer, the rumor mill has been running at full force. In March, it was reported that the company was working with an investment bank, later named as Morgan Stanley, to explore strategic options. LBO chatter filtered in last week despite a statement by CEO Edward Colligan that the company could survive alone.
