China trade surplus swells to $22.45 billion |

China's foreign trade surplus ballooned to an unexpectedly high $22.45 billion in May, a jump likely to intensify calls for Beijing to let the yuan appreciate more rapidly.
The surplus - the third-highest monthly level on record - was up 73 percent from last May, the Chinese customs agency said on its Web site. Exports jumped 28.7 percent to $94 billion, while imports rose 19.1 percent to $71.6 billion.
The figure, released a day before a meeting between China and the European Union to discuss trade tensions, compared with a $16.9 billion surplus in April.
