Delphi Saginaw steering workers approve labor pact |

Two plants returned two different results from union workers voting on whether to ratify a new labor deal with auto supplier Delphi Corp. , the former parts-making division of General Motors Corp.
Workers represented by the United Auto Workers union at the Saginaw steering plant in Michigan approved the deal with 83.5% voting in favor, Local 699 President Mike Hanley said Thursday. He said about 2,200 were eligible to vote and about 81% turned out.
The plan for the Saginaw steering plant is to sell it to a private equity firm. Delphi has been in Chapter 11 since October 2005.
But the Buffalo News reported on its Web site that UAW workers at the Lockport, N.Y., plant rejected the deal with 80% voting against the tentative agreement.
