CVS Caremark June Same-Store Sales Rise |

Drugstore operator CVS Caremark Corp. on Thursday said same-store sales rose 5.4 percent in June, as sales of cosmetics and candy outpaced pharmaceutical purchases.
Same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, is a key measure of retailer performance, because it measures growth at existing stores rather than from newly opened ones.
Pharmacy same-store sales for the five weeks ended June 30 rose 4.7 percent, hurt less than 1 percent by generic introductions. Same-store sales of front-end merchandise, or non-pharmacy goods such as candy and personal care items, grew 6.8 percent during the period.
