Sallie Mae shares open higher Thursday after doubt over deal |

Shares of Sallie Mae opened 2% higher on Thursday, at $53.30, following a slide of almost 10% on Wednesday. The stock sank Wednesday following Sallie's revelation that the group of firms planning a $25 billion purchase of the company said a congressional bill could hurt the deal. A bill passed by the House Wednesday would slash about $19 billion to student lenders. The White House has threatened to veto the bill. Sallie Mae is formally known as SLM Corp.
