Yahoo promises change as profit slips |

When Jerry Yang, a co-founder of Yahoo, discussed his company's quarterly financial results with investors for the first time since he was named chief executive, few on Wall Street expected good news - or big surprises.
After all, company executives had all but said that Yahoo would continue to struggle as Google outpaced it in search and advertising and as new competition increased from the likes of MySpace, Facebook and others.
What they got was promises. "We want to dramatically improve our performance," Yang said Tuesday, putting the emphasis on the kinds of steps he would take to revive Yahoo's fortunes. "I am very well aware of the significant challenges we face."
