Weak earnings send stocks sharply lower |

Record lows and 52-week lows were plentiful Tuesday for several Kansas City area companies while stock indexes plunged after some subpar earnings reports.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell more than 200 points as only one of the 30 blue-chip companies — Verizon Communications Inc. — posted a gain. Verizon added 32 cents to $43.11.
The broader Standard & Poor’s 500 index and the Nasdaq composite index also experienced steep declines.
