China threatens crackdown on toymakers |

China threatened today to take action against companies involved in Mattel's recall of millions of toys that could contain dangerous magnets or lead-contaminated paint.
The country's Commerce Ministry said that it cared about toy safety and would act to ensure that exports were safe.
A spokesman said: "China is responsible. We will investigate the cases and severely deal with them."
Separately, Li Changjiang, the head of the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, told the People's Daily newspaper that a failure by manufacturers to improve quality standards was undermining the country's trading position.
