Sony Ericsson on Tuesday appointed Hideki Komiyama as its new top executive after Miles Flint stepped away from the job at the mobile-phone joint venture of Japan's Sony Corp. and Sweden's L.M. Ericsson.
Komiyama helped Sony win market share in the U.S. with TVs and personal computers, and Sony Ericsson cited his expertise in marketing and sales.
Flint, who became president in 2004 and helped bring the venture to profitability, will remain executive adviser to Komiyama until the end of the year. Komiyama, currently chairman of Sony Electronics, U.S.A., will move into the new job on Nov. 1.
Flint, who spent 17 years at Sony and then Sony Ericsson, said he's leaving to seek new personal and business opportunities, and intends to take a short career break before deciding on his next step.
