Global Chip Sales Edge Higher |

World-wide semiconductor sales increased 2.2% in July from a year earlier amid gains in microprocessors and flash-memory products used in items such as digital cameras, showing the credit crunch -- for now -- has avoided consumer electronics.
Sales climbed to $20.58 billion, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association. The Americas saw the only decline, falling 6.2%. From June, sales rose 3.2%, with every region of the world seeing increases.
Association President George Scalise noted: "Prices climbed slightly in several large segments of the semiconductor market, and price erosion in the memory sector slowed significantly in July as unit shipments grew."
