China saw its trade surplus surge 56% in September, as export growth outstripped growth in imports, adding pressure on Beijing to loosen currency controls and relax market barriers while also reining in monetary policy to prevent economic overheating.
China's surplus totaled $23.9 billion, widening from $15.3 billion in September 2006, the Ministry of Commerce said on its Web site Friday.

September's exports climbed 22.8% on year, reaching $112.48 billion.
