Samsung to Expand |

South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Thursday said it will spend 2.06 trillion Korean won ($2.22 billion) expanding its liquid-crystal-display panel capacity to meet rising demand for large flat-screen televisions.
Samsung, the world's largest maker of LCD panels by revenue, said it will make the investment in 2008. The company also said it will spend the money on expanding facilities at its eighth-generation LCD production line, which is capable of producing panels for 46-inch and 52-inch televisions.
Samsung makes LCD panels through a joint venture with Japan's Sony Corp. The joint venture, S-LCD Corp., largely produces panels between 40 and 50 inches.
