Intel to sell division assets to Emcore |

Intel Corp. said Tuesday it has agreed to sell the telecom assets of the chip maker's optical platform division to chip materials maker Emcore Corp. for $85 million.
The telecom assets include intellectual property, assets and fiber-optic technology.
Intel said the sale allows the company to focus its investments on core communications and embedded market segments. The company said it is also exploring strategic alternatives for the enterprise-focused portion of the division.
Emcore said the acquisition will generate $65 million of revenue in 2008 and help the company achieve its goal of profitability by mid-2008.
