American Stock Exchange rumored to be mulling sale |

American Stock Exchange (Amex), the equities and options exchange, is rumored to be considering a sale rather than an initial public offering, a person familiar with the company and an industry banker told mergermarket.
An Amex spokesperson said the company does not comment on speculation.
New York-based Amex has been reported to be considering an IPO, most recently in October after the exchange announced a new president and COO, Patricia Rado.
But the exchange, which offers equity and equity options trading, is under pressure as its market share in the equity options trading business has dropped, according to the industry banker. The Amex spokesperson said the company’s other three divisions - equities, structured products and ETFs - have helped buoy the company.
