15% Work Force Reduction Seen For Merck-Schering |

Merck & Co. (MRK) expects to reduce its work force by about 15% following its planned $41 billion acquisition of Schering-Plough Corp. (SGP), Merck's chief said Monday.
A high percentage of the reductions will be outside the U.S., Merck Chief Executive Richard Clark told Dow Jones Newswires in an interview after the companies announced the acquisition early Monday.
Merck, of Whitehouse Station, N.J., has about 55,200 employees worldwide, with 28,000 in the U.S., according to a regulatory filing. Kenilworth, N.J.-based Schering-Plough has about 51,000 global employees, with just 15,000 in the U.S.
