Ford's July Sales Rise 2.1% |

Ford Motor Co. reported a 2.1% increase in U.S. July light-vehicle sales, its first monthly gain in 20 months, as the company kicked off reports from auto makers that should show the impact of the "Cash for Clunkers" program.
Ford, whose sales analyst disclosed the year-to-year increase Sunday without giving details, has been the best performing among big car makers. It was seen to have a slight sales drop for July before "Cash for Clunkers" began on the 24th.
But the federal program has nearly burned through its initial $1 billion of funding on strong consumer response, pushing industry sales sharply higher than originally expected for the first half of 2009.
