Job cuts decline in September; GDP decline slows |

Employers cut back on their job cutting last month with private payrolls recording a loss of 254,000 positions in September, according to a report by payroll firm ADP released Wednesday. The loss of 254,000 jobs was the sixth straight month of declining job losses reported by ADP.
ADP’s measure of the job market in the private sector comes two days before the federal government is scheduled to release its employment report, forecast to show 180,000 jobs lost from both government and private payrolls in September. That would be the smallest job loss for the economy in a year.
The news of lower job cuts came on the same day the government reported a better than expected performance for the economy in the second quarter.
