Whitacre Said to Expect CEO Search Taking Up to Year |

General Motors Co. Chairman Ed Whitacre, who took over the chief executive officer job from Fritz Henderson yesterday, told employees that the search for a new CEO may take as long as a year.
Whitacre, 68, who as chief of AT&T Inc. assembled the world’s largest telecom company, said today the hunt would last as long as necessary, according to a recording of the 30-minute broadcast. The search may also be completed within months, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing internal communications.
“We’re going to have a CEO search, and we have hired the firm already to conduct a search,” Whitacre said, without giving a name. “You’re going to ask me, ‘Well, will that take a week, or a month, or two months, or six months?’ I don’t really know. I hope that you and I can work together in the meantime.”
