Bulk savings retailers Costco and BJ's Wholesale Club both reported quarterly earnings that fell short of the Street's expectations Wednesday, despite better sales.
Costco ( COST - news - people ) reported a fiscal second-quarter profit of $299 million or 67 cents per share but analysts expected 72 cents per share. Domestic results lagged, rising just 5% from a year earlier, but a 26% gain for international sales helped Costco post overall sales growth of 9%.
