Toyota, Honda extend production halts, others doing some work |

While some other Japanese automakers are getting back to work in at least limited ways, Toyota and Honda -- the makers with the most impact in the U.S. market -- today extends their production shutdowns at least through this week.
Toyota, which had planned to restart today, announced that its assembly plants will remain shut down at least until the weekend, as it tries to sort out the flow of parts, particularly electronics, and deal with power outages. The company has restarted some parts making. A number of models sold in the U'.S., including the Prius and Lexus vehicles, are made only in Japan.
Honda said that its assembly lines at Saitama and Suzuka -- including production of the Fit and most of its hybrids for the U.S. -- will remain closed until at least Sunday. Production of Honda bikes is also affected.
