US, EU, Japan fight China on rare earths |

President Barack Obama – making a personal appearance to announce the case to emphasise its importance – said that the US did not crave confrontation with China, but would not hesitate to resort to litigation if necessary.
“We prefer dialogue ... but when it is necessary I will take action if our workers and our businesses are being subjected to unfair practices,” he said. “We will keep working every single day to give American workers and American businesses a fair shot in the global economy.”
Mr Obama reiterated the importance of manufacturing to America, a consistent theme of his administration this year. “We’re going to make sure that this isn’t a country that’s just known for what we consume,” he said.
